Miki Aihara's From Five to Nine Manga Gets Video Adaptation

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Manga from Hot Gimmick/Honey Hunt author launched in 2010

The September issue of Shogakukan's Cheese! magazine is revealing on Monday that Miki Aihara's From Five to Nine (Go-ji kara Ku-ji made) manga is getting a video adaptation. The announcement does not state whether the adaptation will be live-action or anime, or in what format (ie: TV series, web series, or film). The announcement uses the Japanese word "eizō," which doesn't mean video as home video, but in the meaning of a moving image that could mean either an anime or live-action.

The announcement notes that the staff had heard the many readers' requests of, "We want a film adaptation! Or even an anime!," but that by that time an adaptation had already been decided. The note added that when an adaptation is offered early on, it can take a long time until things are fully decided. However, now the adaptation is underway.

The November issue of Cheese! on September 24 will include a an opening color page for the manga, and Shogakukan will also feature the series on the issue's cover. The November issue will provide more details about the adaptation. The announcement teases, "The cast, could really it be, that person!"

The manga centers on Junko Sakuraba, a 27-year-old lecturer at an English conversation school who has no boyfriend. Her parents set up a marriage interview for her with a man who turns out to be a Buddhist monk. However, Junko has no intention of becoming a temple wife, so she refuses to do the interview. Soon afterward, the man signs up to become her private student.

Aihara (Honey Hunt, Hot Gimmick, Tokyo Boys & Girls) launched the series in Cheese! in January 2010 after publishing a one-shot in 2009. Shogakukan will release the 11th compiled volume on September 25, and a limited edition of the volume will include a drama CD.

Viz Media released Hot Gimmick, Honey Hunt, and Tokyo Boys & Girls in North America.
