Wake Up, Girls! Franchise Gets New Anime Short

Director Yutaka Yamamoto and the main cast of the Wake Up, Girls! idol anime franchise announced in MOVIX Sendai on Sunday that the franchise will launch its "Wake Up, Miyagi! Fure-Ai Project in Taiwan" project. The project will focus on promoting Miyagi as a tourist destination to Taiwan. The project will involve an original short anime that will highlight Miyagi's Tanabata festival and will show the characters wearing yukata. The short will also highlight the sights, local cuisine, and culture of Miyagi Prefecture. The announcement did not provide a release date for the anime.
The project will also include a talk show in Taipei on February 10 and 11, which will include director Yutaka Yamamoto, as well as cast members Airi Eino, Yoshino Aoyama, Miyu Takagi, and Kaori Fukuhara, and a talk show and mini-concert event in Sendai Airport on March 27.
The Wake Up, Girls! anime and film franchise is itself set in Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture.

The television anime premiered in Japan in January 2014 along with a limited theatrical run. Crunchyroll streamed the series outside of Japan alongside the Chinese media services Tudou and Youku. Two sequel films, Wake Up, Girls! Seishun no Kage and Wake Up, Girls! Beyond the Bottom, opened on September 25 and December 11, respectively. The franchise also includes the original net anime spinoff Wake Up, Girl Zoo!
