Guardian Angel Getten/Mamotte Shugogetten Manga Sequel Debuts

posted on by Jabulani Blyden
Half of 1st chapter now available, with the rest to follow on January 5

Minene Sakurano launched the sequel manga to her Guardian Angel Getten (Mamotte Shugogetten!) series on Mag Garden's online manga service Mag Comi on Friday. The first half of the first chapter of Mamotte Shugogetten! Kaifū no Shō (Guardian Angel Getten: Unsealing) is now online. The complete first chapter will be available in the second issue of Mag Garden, available January 5.

In Mamotte Shugogetten! Kaifū no Shō, Tasuke is now in his second year of high school. He's living with a third year student. Though they are not in a relationship, their love is bound by fate. Kiryuu, Ruuan and other popular characters from Mamotte Shugogetten! will appear in the sequel manga.

Sakurano serialized the original Guardian Angel Getten manga from 1997 to 2000. Tokyopop published the original manga in North America and described the story:

An average high school boy receives a mysterious ring from his father. And - much to his surprise - when he gazes into the ring, a beautiful moon goddess is released who claims to be his protector! But having been locked away for a thousand years, she has a lot to learn about the modern world...

Sakurano serialized the original manga from 1997-2000, and Gutsoon! Entertainment's Raijin Comics serialized part of the series in English. Tokyopop released the 11-volume series in North America in five omnibus volumes. Sakurano drew a six-volume sequel, Mamotte Shugogetten! Retrouvailles, starting in 2002.

The manga inspired a television anime adaptation in 1998 and an OVA in 2000.

In the story of the original manga, Shichiri Tasuke recieves a gift from his traveling father: a ring like crystal from which emerges a girl named Shao Lin, the Spirit of the moon, whose purpose is to protect her master (in this case, Tasuke) from misfortune. Shao Lin, however, is quite naive and has little to no understanding of the modern world.
