posted on by Karen Ressler
Otome game adaptation to premiere in January

Sentai Filmworks announced on Tuesday that it has licensed Norn9, the anime of Otomate's Norn9: Norn + Nonette PSP otome game for female players. The company will stream the series and later release it on home video.

The series will premiere in Japan on Tokyo MX on January 7. It will also air on the Sun TV, BS11, and AT-X channels.

Sentai Filmworks describes the story

Based on the visual novel of the same name, the story follows a 12-year-old boy named Sorata Suzuhara who finds himself transported to an alternate time, and possibly a different world. Aboard the Norn, a giant spherical ship that acts as a miniature city, Sorata joins three girls and nine young men on a journey toward an unknown destination...

The anime's main cast are reprising their roles from the game. Takao Abo (episode director for Eureka Seven, Macross Frontier, assistant director for Lunar Legend Tsukihime) is making his directorial debut at Kinema Citrus and Orange. Tetsuo Ichimura (Ane Log, episode director for Bleach, Penguindrum) is serving as assistant director, Natsuko Takahashi (My Love Story!!, 07-Ghost) is handling the series composition, and Yukari Takeuchi (animation director for Bleach, Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 1000%) is adapting Teita's original character designs for anime and is also serving as chief animation director.

Nagi Yanagi will perform the show's opening theme song. Kaori Oda (Baccano! Pandora Hearts) will perform the ending theme song.

Otomate and Idea Factory released the game for PSP in May 2013. The PlayStation Vita port, Norn9: Var Commons, shipped in Japan in December 2014. Otomate and Idea Factory will release a new game in the franchise titled Norn + Nonette Act Tune on the PS Vita in 2016.

Aksys Games released Norn9: Var Commons in North America and Europe on November 3.
