Teekyū Spinoff Manga Usakame Gets TV Anime

The official website of writer Roots and artist Jūzō Kirisawa's Teekyū spinoff manga Usakame announced on Wednesday that a television anime adaptation has been green-lit for next year. The members of the voice actress unit Earth Star Dream (who also performed the opening theme song for the sixth season of Teekyū) will voice the main characters.

Shin Itagaki, the director of all the Teekyū anime adaptations, will return to direct Usakame. Millepensee will return to animate the series.
Roots and Kirisawa launched the manga in Earth Star Entertainment's Comic Earth Star on September 17 as a spinoff of Roots' own Teekyū manga. Earth Star Entertainment published the manga's first compiled book volume on December 12. The characters of Usakame initially appeared in the Teekyū manga as opponents of the main characters in the national team tournament. The website labels the characters as the "official rivals" of Teekyū.
Piyo and Roots launched the original Teekyū manga in Comic Earth Star in early 2012, and the first anime season was announced just months later on the manga's first book volume. Earth Star Entertainment claims that this is the fastest television anime adaptation ever. A second and third season followed. Crunchyroll streamed the previous six seasons of the show, as well as the Takamiya Nasuno Desu! spinoff, as they aired in Japan.
The manga is inspiring a seventh season premiering on January 11.
The franchise also inspired a stage play from July 29-August 2 in Tokyo.
