Vertical Licenses NisiOisin's Bakemonogatari Novels

Publisher to release series starting in December

North American manga and novel publisher Vertical Comics announced at its panel at Katsucon on Friday that it has licensed NisiOisin and VOFAN's Bakemonogatari light novel series. The company plans to release the series starting in December.

Kodansha released the novel series in Japan in two volumes in 2006. The story follows high school student and former vampire Koyomi Araragi and the strange students he encounters.

The novel series inspired a 15-episode television anime series in 2009. Aniplex of America released the series on Blu-ray Disc in 2012. Crunchyroll, Daisuki, and Hulu are are streaming the series.

Vertical released NisiOisin and VOFAN's Kizumonogatari novel in December. Kizumonogatari is the third volume in the Monogatari book series, whereas Bakemonogatari comprises the first two novels in the series. Vertical marketing director Ed Chavez explained last February that his company published Kizumonogatari first because "NisiOisin's editor suggested we start there. His team is very involved in this project."

Update: Vertical plans to release Bakemonogatari in three volumes, with the second and third tentatively planned for January 2017 and February 2017, respectively.
