Toronto-based film distributor Mongrel Media confirmed on Friday that it will release Mamoru Hosoda's The Boy and The Beast film in Canada. The company will release the film in theaters starting on May 27, and it will also release the film on-demand and on home video.

Mongrel Media's website indicates that the film will screen in Japanese with English subtitles. Funimation is opening the film in the U.S. on Friday.

Funimation describes the film:

When Kyuta, a young orphan living on the streets of Shibuya, stumbles into a fantastic world of beasts, he's taken in by Kumatetsu, a gruff, rough-around-the-edges warrior beast who's been searching for the perfect apprentice. Despite their constant bickering, Kyuta and Kumatetsu begin training together and slowly form a bond as surrogate father and son. But when a deep darkness threatens to throw the human and beast worlds into chaos, the strong bond between this unlikely pair will be put to the ultimate test—a final showdown that will only be won if the two can finally work together using all of their combined strength and courage.

The film debuted at #1 in the Japanese box-office on July 11 and earned 667,035,100 yen (about US$5.4 million) in its first two days. The film eventually surpassed the total box office earnings of Hosoda's previous film, Wolf Children. The film was the second-highest grossing domestic film in Japan in 2015.

Additionally, the official website of the Canadian entertainment company Cineplex is listing that it will distribute the Psycho-Pass The Movie anime film.

Funimation had revealed earlier this month that it will screen the film in more than 100 theaters in the Unitedd States and Canada on March 15 and 16. Cineplex is listing that it will screen the film on March 16. Cineplex lists the film as Japanese with English subtitles, but Funimation's official website for the film includes a trailer with the English dub and credits for the English cast and ADR crew.

The film opened on January 9, 2015 at #4 in the Japanese box office and earned 247.8 million yen (US$2.08 million) in its first weekend.
