PSP Go's Warranty Maintenance Service in Japan Ends on July 31

Sony cites difficulty in procuring parts as reason

Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia announced on its official Japanese PlayStation website on Monday that it will discontinue its warranty service and maintenance for its PlayStation Portable Go device on July 31. The company cited difficulty in procuring parts for the device as the reason for the service's discontinuation.

The company further advised owners of the device to send any required service and maintenance before July 31, but cautioned that due to lack of parts, some service requests may exceed the deadline.

Sony released the PSP Go on October 1, 2009 in North America and Europe, and on November 1 of the same year in Japan. The device is a smaller and lighter version of the regular PlayStation Portable. While the device played PSP games, it did not have a UMD drive, and instead had 16 gigabytes of internal memory to store games purchased and downloaded from the PlayStation Store.

Sony closed both the Japanese and North American PSP PlayStation Store on March 31.

Sony launched the PlayStation Portable gaming system in 2004 and ended shipments in Japan in June 2014.
