Nadia/Heidi Scriptwriter Hisao Ōkawa Passes Away

Anime scriptwriter Hisao Ōkawa passed away on April 19 due to respiratory failure. He was 88. He is survived by his wife, Shizuka Ōkawa.
Ōkawa was born in Kanagawa. He studied under the scriptwriter Ryūzō Kikushima, known for co-writing screenplays to many Akira Kurosawa films. He wrote the screenplay for 11 episodes of Yama Nezumi Rocky Chuck (Fables of the Green Forest), 14 episodes of Alps no Shōjo Heidi, and also co-wrote the script for the anime's 1979 film. He also wrote the scripts for Shōnen Tokugawa Ieyasu, and some episodes of Ikkyū-san. In 1990, he wrote or co-wrote the scripts for all 39 episodes of Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water.
Aside from his work in anime, he has also worked in television and film.
