Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Gets Theatrical Compilation Editions

posted on by Karen Ressler
2 parts to open in December, January in Japan

The official website for the Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress anime announced on Friday that the series will get two compilation editions that will screen in theaters in Japan. The website did not specify how long each compilation edition would be.

The first part will debut in theaters on December 31 and the second half will debut on January 7. Both will run for two weeks in theaters.

The anime premiered on April 7 and ended this week. The second episode was delayed due to special news coverage of the Kumamoto earthquake on April 15. The series' broadcast resumed one week later with the second episode.

The "steampunk survival action" story takes place on the island country Hinomoto, where humans hide themselves in fortresses called stations against the threat of zombie-like beings with steel hearts known as "Kabane." Only armored locomotives known as "Hayajiro" go between the stations.

The anime reunited director Tetsuro Araki and Wit Studio, the team responsible for Attack on Titan. Code Geass creator Ichiro Okouchi wrote the scripts. Haruhiko Mikimoto (Macross 7, Gunbuster) designed the original characters, and Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Aldnoah.Zero) composed the music.

The series streamed on Amazon Prime worldwide.
