New play to run in Tokyo, Osaka

The presenters at the "Stage Play Tokyo Ghoul Special Event" performance revealed at Osaka's Mielparque Hall on July 3 that a new Tokyo Ghoul stage play based on Sui Ishida's Tokyo Ghoul manga has been green-lit. The stage play will serve as a sequel to the first stage play, and will begin performances in summer 2017. The play will run in Tokyo and Osaka.

Six performers from last year's play were at the event on July 3, but the announcement did not state if the previous play's cast will return for the 2017 play.

Tokyo Ghoul's first play debuted in the summer of 2015, performing at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo for a week in early July, and then at the Kyōto Gekijō for a few days in mid-July.

The manga is also inspiring a live-action film that will open in the summer of 2017, alongside the stage play.

Ishida serialized Tokyo Ghoul in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump from 2011 to 2014, and is now serializing Tokyo Ghoul:re. Tokyo Ghoul inspired two anime series, several original video anime projects, and PlayStation Vita and smartphone games.
