Live-action Gintama/HK's Yūichi Fukuda directs film

This year's 35th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed more details on Monday about the live-action film adaptation of Shūichi Asō's Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan manga The film will star Kento Yamazaki (live-action Orange, Your Lie in April, One Week Friends films, live-action Death Note television series) as the titular character Kusuo Saiki, and Yūichi Fukuda (live-action HK/Hentai Kamen, Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store, Gintama) is directing the film.

Shueisha originally announced the live-action film adaptation in June 2015, but hadn't revealed more details about the project until now.

The manga inspired an ongoing anime series that started airing within the Oha-Suta ("Good Morning Star") program on July 4. The anime airs five episodes each week inside that program, and then a light-night broadcast collects those five episodes and airs them together.

Funimation is streaming the anime under the title The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., and it describes the series:

Kusuo Saiki is a typical 16-year-old high school student… except he has psychic powers. He can use them to get whatever he wants, but he also knows everything that people are thinking. Everything. No surprises, no secrets, no normal human experiences. He's kept his powers in check since childhood, but with the temptations of high school now on his mind, he's bending the rules—and spoons.

Asō launched the manga series in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2012 after drawing one-shot versions of the story in Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump Next! magazines in 2011. Shueisha published the 18th compiled volume of the manga in Japan on July 4. The manga has more than 4 million copies in print. The manga is also inspiring an upcoming Nintendo 3DS game.
