Crunchyroll to Stream Gabriel Dropout Anime

posted on by Karen Ressler
Series about a lazy angel premieres on January 9

Crunchyroll announced on Thursday that it will stream the Gabriel DropOut television anime based on Ukami's manga. The simulcast will begin on Monday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. EST. It will be available worldwide outside of Asia.

In Japan, the anime will premiere on January 9 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, Sun TV, and BS11, and will also air on January 10 on KBS Kyoto, Shizuoka Broadcasting System, Gifu Broadcasting, and Mie TV. The series will also stream on Hikari TV.

The anime is reuniting the main staff from summer 2015's Himōto! Umaru-chan anime. Masahiko Ohta is directing the series, Katsuhiro Kumagai is serving as character designer, and Takashi Aoshima is handling the series composition at studio Doga Kobo.

The comedy follows Gabriel White, who graduated at the top of her class at angel school and attends a human school on earth in pursuit of knowledge, but then gets engrossed in a web game and decides it's too much trouble to go anywhere. She becomes a good-for-nothing angel, or "datenshi."

Miyu Tomita, Saori Ōnishi, Naomi Ōzora, and Kana Hanazawa are performing both the opening and ending themes as their characters Gabriel, Vignette, Satanichia, and Raphiel, respectively. The opening theme is titled "Gabriel Drop Kick." Ken'ichi Maeyamada (Hyadain) wrote, composed, and arranged the song. The main cast are also performing the ending theme song, titled "Hallelujah Essaim." Ryuji Sakai wrote the song, while Shingo Yamazaki arranged it. The CD singles for both songs are slated for February 22.

The ongoing manga series first launched in December 2013 in Kadokawa's Dengeki Daioh G gag manga magazine and serialized every other month before it began monthly serialization in April 2014. Kadokawa shipped the third compiled volume in May, and will ship the fourth volume on January 10.
