Fate/Apocrypha Novels' TV Anime Announced With Trailer

Yoshiyuki Asai directs 2017 series at A-1 Pictures

The official website for the television anime adaptation of TYPE-MOON and Yuichiro Higashide's Fate/Apocrypha novels launched on Saturday and announced the adaptation with a promotional video. The anime will premiere in 2017. (Note: The official video on the website is region-locked to Japan.)

The website also posted a key visual and announced the main staff.

Higashide himself is in charge of the anime's series scripts, and Yoshiyuki Asai (Charlotte) is directing at A-1 Pictures. Asai storyboarded and directed the teaser promotional video above. Yūkei Yamada is adapting Ototsugu Konoe's original character designs for animation, and Yamada also drew the new anime's teaser visual of 14 Servants above. Masaru Yokoyama (The Lost Village, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Nobunaga Concerto) is composing music.

In the story, there was once a Holy Grail War waged by seven Mages and Heroic Spirits in a town called Fuyuki. However, a certain Mage took advantage of the chaos of World War II to steal a Holy Grail. Several decades have passed, and the Yggdmillennia family, who took upon the Holy Grail as its symbol, defected from the Mages' Association and declared their independence. Furious, the Association sent a force to deal with the Yggdmillennia, but they were defeated by the summoned Servants. With the Holy Grail War system changed, war at an unprecedented scale, with seven versus seven, breaks out. And so, the curtain rises on the epoch-making Great Holy Grail War.

The Fate/stay night franchise also began streaming the first trailer for the first film in the three-part Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel anime film project on Saturday. In addition, the second promotional video for the television anime adaptation of the Fate/Extra game began streaming on Saturday.

The February 2017 issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Newtype magazine, which ships in Japan on January 10, will include a feature on the Fate franchise's upcoming works for 2017. The feature will publish information about the Fate/Grand Order: First Order- television special, Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel films, Fate/Extra Last Encore television anime, Fate/Apocrypha, and Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya. The issue will also include original illustrations by the original Fate/stay night visual novel's character designer Takashi Takeuchi.

TYPE-MOON and Higashide launched the Fate/Apocrypha novel project in 2012. The fifth and final volume debuted in 2014. Akira Ishida (Oninagi, MAOYU - Archenemy and Hero) launched a manga adaptation in Kadokawa's Monthly Comp Ace magazine in August. The first compiled book volume shipped in August, and the second volume will ship on January 26.
