Short movie is collaboration with opening of Meru documentary in Japan

Hideo Shinanogawa's Yama to Shokuyoku to Watashi (Mountains, Appetite, and Me) manga is collaborating with the Japanese release of the Meru documentary film with a live-action short movie of the manga. The short movie stars Kira Nakagawa as protagonist Ayumi Hibino, and it also features appearances by mountaineer Yasuhiro Hanatani and cuisine specialist Yuka Yamato.

The manga centers on Ayumi Hibino, a 27-year-old woman who works at a company, but likes to climb mountains alone. She packs delicious food for the climb, and eats it when reaching the top.

The Meru documentary chronicles both the failed 2008 climb and the successful 2011 climb of Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturk in the Himalaya's Meru Peak, in particular the party's climb of the 4,000-foot "Shark's Fin" peak. The film will open in 23 theaters in Japan on Saturday. Yasuhiro Hinatani, who appears in the above video, once attempted to climb the Shark's Fin in 2004.

Shinanogawa launched the Yama to Shokuyoku to Watashi manga in Shinchosha's Kurage Bunch magazine in September 2015. Shinchosha published the manga's third compiled book volume in November.
