Macross 35th Anniversary Includes VR, Concert, Planetarium Projects in 2017

posted on by Egan Loo
Projection mapping, toys also teased for this year before 2018's new TV anime

Macross Delta's second "Walkūre ga Tomaranai" concert in Yokohama listed several of the projects planned this year for the 35th anniversary of the science-fiction romance anime franchise Macross. Among the announcements are virtual reality, live music concert, theater, planetarium (listed as "planetalium"), amusement center, projection mapping display, toy, shop, and network projects. The announcement video began with images of characters from the different Macross anime over the decades.

The concert also announced a new television anime for 2018. The Sunday concert will be available on home video.

The franchise began in 1982 with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, a television anime series with themes of a love triangle, music, and transforming fighter planes. It spawned three more television series (Macross 7. Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta), several theatrical films (starting with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?), and several video series (including Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Dynamite 7, and Macross Zero). Macross Delta ran from April to September of last year, after a preview of the first episode in 2015.
