Splatoon Manga Launches in Coro Coro Comics on May 15 (Update)

Shogakukan publishes full-color preview chapter on Saturday

The May issue of Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comics magazine revealed on Saturday that Sankichi Hinodeya's Splatoon manga will launch in the magazine's June issue, which will ship on May 15. The May issue also published a full-color preview chapter for the manga. The manga is already serializing in Bessatsu Coro Coro Comic Special.

The March issue of Coro Coro Comics had included a pamphlet with a one-shot manga adaptation (pictured at right) of Nintendo's upcoming Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch game. Hinodeya also drew the one-shot, and the one-shot had noted at the time that serialization would begin "soon." The entire pamphlet with the one-shot manga is available online.

Splatoon 2 will ship for the Nintendo Switch in both Japan and the United States on July 21.

Nintendo released the first Splatoon game for the Wii U in May 2015. The game centers on "Inklings," who are beings who can transform between human and squid form. The game pits players in a fight for territory as two teams fight to cover their battlefield with their respective paint colors.

The game has received two manga adaptations. Kino Takahashi launched the Honobono Ika 4-koma manga, while different manga creators contributed stories to Play Manga. Hinodeya also published a one-shot manga based on Splatoon in Coro Coro Comics in May 2015.

Splatoon previously collaborated with manga creator Masahiro Anbe (Squid Girl) to promote the game.

Update: The manga that launched was not new.
