Right Stuf to Release Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin: Chronicle of Char and Sayla in August

posted on by Rai Kelly
Pre-orders begin on July 11

North American anime distributor Right Stuf and anime studio Sunrise announced on Wednesday that they will release the first four episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin on Blu-ray Disc and DVD under the title Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin: Chronicle of Char and Sayla on August 1.

The Blu-ray Disc edition will cost US$64.99 while the DVD will cost US$49.00. Both formats will include four discs with both English and Japanese audio, a "Chronicle of the Loum Battlefield" preview video, and an "On the Other Side of Space" music video. Pre-orders for both versions will begin on July 11.

The original video anime (OVA) episodes screened in Japanese theaters beginning in 2015. ACJ's online platform Daisuki streamed all four episodes in Japanese and with the English dub as they premiered in Japan, and Right Stuf previously sold separate imported versions of all four episodes.

Sunrise will begin the anime's "Loum Arc" with the fifth episode on September 2. The sixth episode, the conclusion of the "Loum Arc," will premiere in 2018.

The story of the OVAs are based on Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's manga series, which is inspired by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise's first Gundam anime. Yasuhiko launched the manga in Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Gundam Ace inaugural issue in 2001 and ended the series in 2011. Viz Media published part of the manga in North America before stopping. Vertical picked up the license and released all 12 volumes of the series in North America.

Sunrise and Right Stuf announced their partnership in 2014 to release the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise in North America.
