Crunchyroll Adds Chargeman Ken Anime Streaming

posted on by Karen Ressler
All 65 episodes now available in U.S., Canada

Crunchyroll added the full Chargeman Ken! anime series to its streaming catalog on Wednesday. The stream is available in the United States and Canada.

Crunchyroll describes the series:

Infamous among anime fans in Japan, this 1974 series by Knack Productions is known for its nonsensical plots, absurdly incompetent animation, and brutal 10-year-old hero. See young Ken Izumi gun down wave after wave of ineffectual aliens, while dealing with misaligned animation cels, repetitive music, and a near total lack of sound effects. The best joke is that none of this was meant as a joke.

Knack Productions' series of 65 five-minute episodes gained popularity for its low quality after Line Communications released the series on DVD in Japan in 2007. The story focuses on 10-year-old Ken, who transforms into a superhero to protect earth from invaders called Juralians.

Discotek Media announced last August that it planned to stream the series and release it on DVD. The company has since uploaded 10 episodes to its YouTube channel, and the DVD is slated for October 31.
