TMS Entertainment animates story of 6 female space fishermen

The staff of ForwardWorks' Sora to Umi no Aida (The Space Between the Sky and Sea) multimedia project announced on Tuesday that TMS Entertainment will animate a television anime adaptation. The anime will premiere in 2018. The staff also announced that ForwardWorks will release the smartphone game for iOS and Android devices in Japan in October and began streaming the opening movie.

The app will also be available in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau through a partnership with So-net Taiwan.

The project is ForwardWorks' first original IP and includes a smartphone game, radio program, manga, television anime, novel, and stage performances. Sakura Wars creator Ouji Hiroi is credited with the original work and is serving as general manager for the project. Bekkourico is drawing the manga tentatively titled Sora to Umi no Aida, which will debut in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in November. Masashi Takimoto is writing the tentatively titled Sora to Umi no Aida Hajimari no Monogatari (The Space Between the Sky and Sea Origin Story) novel that Dengeki Game Bunko will publish this fall.

The story is set in Onomichi, Hiroshima in the year 20XX. Fish disappear from the sea around the world and only whales live in the ocean. The Ministry of Fishery decides to set up giant experimental Universe Fish Tanks in space. The Onomichi Universe Fishery Union is established and begins to train space fishermen. Female fishermen are in demand due to the strengthening of an equal employment law for men and women. Six new female space fishermen are selected, and the story centers on supporting their growth.

The game will have both a story mode and a space fishing mode. The full-voice story mode will have both a "Main Story" and "Cadet Stories" of the six girls. In the space fishing mode, players will risk their lives to fish for vicious space fish together with a guardian deity.

The project's official website is running a pre-registration campaign that will give all players in-game bonuses depending on how many people pre-register. The rewards include rainbow spheres, Kisshō guardian deities, and a cadet friendship level up materials set.
