IG Port Reports Net Profit, But 3 of 4 Subsidiary Anime Studios Report Net Loss

Production I.G, Mag Garden report net profit; XEBEC, Wit Studio, Signal.MD report net losses

IG Port, the parent company of animation studios Production I.G, Wit Studio, XEBEC, Signal.MD, and publisher Mag Garden, released its report for its previous fiscal year (June 1, 2016 to May 31 2017) on August 30. The report provided a breakdown of the earnings of the individual companies.

Among its subsidiary companies, Production I.G (Welcome to the Ballroom, Joker Game, Miss Hokusai) had the highest sales with 2.284 billion yen (about US$20.90 million). The company also reported an ordinary income of 223 million yen (about US$2.04 million), and a net income of 160 million yen (about US$1.46 million).

Publishing arm Mag Garden (Monthly Comic Garden, Monthly Comic Avarus) also reported a profit, with sales of 1.717 billion yen (about US$15.71 million), an ordinary income of 336 million yen (about US$3.07 million), and a net income of 211 million yen (about US$1.93 million).

XEBEC, Wit Studio, and Signal.MD all reported losses. XEBEC (BanG Dream!, Clockwork Planet) reported sales of 1.913 billion yen (about US$17.50 million), an ordinary loss of 23 million yen (about US$210,473), and a net loss of 43 million yen (about US$393,488).

Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, The Ancient Magus' Bride, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) reported sales of 933 million yen (about US$8.53 million), an ordinary loss of 13 million yen (about US$118,950), and a net loss of 57 million yen (about US$521,550).

Signal.MD (Cyborg 009 Call of Justice, Napping Princess, Atom The Beginning) reported sales of 1.236 billion yen (about US$11.30 million), an operating loss of 2 million yen (about US$18,300), and a net loss of 7 million yen (about US$64,043).

IG Port released the total results of its fiscal year in July, reporting consolidated sales of 7.589 billion yen (about US$69.45 million), an operating profit of 520 million yen (about US$4.75 million), an ordinary income of 541 million yen (about US$4.95 million), and a net income of 228 million yen (about US$2.08 million).

IG Port reports a 170.5% increase in sales from film projects and a 29.5% increase in sales for television anime and anime video projects, but a 19.8% decrease in games and other projects. It projects a growth of 253.9% in film projects over the next year, and a 108.7% growth in television anime and other anime video projects. It also projects a 36.3% growth in games and other projects. The company expects to have sales of 9.592 billion yen (about US$87.76 million) over the next year.
