New Z/X Anime Slated to Air in 2019, Based on Upcoming Manga

Takuya Fujima launches manga basis this week

The "Z/Xtreme 2017.Autumn" event at Tokyo's Akihabara district revealed on Sunday that the previously announced new anime adaptation of the Z/X game franchise is slated to air in 2019. The new television anime will be based on the Z/X Code reunion manga adaptation that artist Takuya Fujima (Weiß Survive, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid) and story creator Tatsuhiko Urahata (Cardfight!! Vanguard, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Saki) are launching in the November issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine on September 21.

The story of the original game is set in the not-so-distant future. Five "Black Points" suddenly appeared around the world as portals to parallel worlds. Immediately after, strange creatures began their invasion from these portals. These creatures are the inhabitants of five worlds — the same worlds in different timeframes. In order to ensure their own future timeframe survives, each of the five invasion forces battle to wipe the other future timeframes out. The key is one card-shaped device.

The Z/X Zillions of enemy X game already inspired a television anime in 2014. (Z/X is pronounced as Zex.) The game advertises itself as the "first free" trading card game system since a free deck is offered at meets held by card shops and events. PDF files are even posted online so people can print them out themselves. The card game has also inspired a PlayStation 3 game, an PC browser game, and a previous manga series in Shueisha's V Jump magazine. Crunchyroll streamed the first anime as it aired in Japan.
