New 3DS/Switch game ships on Friday in N. America, Europe

Nintendo began streaming a launch trailer for the Fire Emblem Warriors (Fire Emblem Musou) New Nintendo 3DS and Switch game on Tuesday. The video features characters, gameplay, and information about additional downloadable content.

The game shipped for both consoles in Japan on September 28, with a release to follow in North America and Europe this Friday. The North American Special Edition will include a three-CD soundtrack, 25 cards with character art and slip case container, and a dual-sided poster showing the game's characters.

Nintendo will release three DLC packs, each themed on a different game: Fire Emblem Fates in December 2017, Shadow Dragon in February 2018, and Awakening in March 2018. Each pack will include new playable characters, scenarios, weapons and costumes, and support conversations. A season pass will also be available and it will include a bonus costume.

The game's story begins when, the Kingdom of Aitriss is enveloped in darkness without warning, and an otherworldly gate appears within the castle. Powerful creatures overpower the castle guards. The castle soon falls, and the darkness slowly but surely encroaches upon the Kingdom. But there is hope in the form of Shion and Liane, the prince and princess who escaped even as the castle burned. They possess a thread that ties together the destiny of heroes. Bearing the Shield of Fire granted to them by their mother, their journey to confront the powerful darkness begins.

The game's playable characters include:

  • Marth, Tiki, Caeda from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light
  • Robin (male and female), Chrom, Lissa, Frederick, Cordelia, and Lucina from Fire Emblem Awakening
  • Corrin (male and female), Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, Sakura, Xander, Camilla, Leo, and Elise from Fire Emblem Fates
  • Lyn from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
  • Celica from Fire Emblem Gaiden/Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia
  • Anna (franchise recurring character)
  • Original characters Liane and Shion

Koei Tecmo Games, its Omega Force team, and its Team Ninja team are developing the game. Omega Force is a subsidiary of Koei Tecmo, and it develops Koei Tecmo's Musou (Warriors) series of games. The series is known for its action hack-and-slash gameplay where players control a character to fight hundreds of enemies at once.
