Under the Dog Kickstarter for Live-Action Short, Music Video Launches

Staff note that project is "next step" toward Under the Dog TV anime series

Japanese music company EXIT TUNES launched the Kickstarter campaign for the new Under the Dog live-action short and music video on Friday. The project is seeking to raise US$50,000 by November 17 to fund the two projects and a special edition release of the original anime.

If the project is successful, the live-action short, titled Overture to Under the Dog, would feature a voiceover by Asami Seto, the voice actress for the main character Anthea in the anime. Atsushi Isoyama (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Tamako Market planning) would direct and write the short as well as produce the music video, while Shoko Omori (K-ON! theme songs) would write the new song's lyrics. Seto would perform the theme song.

The staff plan for the two new projects to accompany Japanese theatrical screenings and web streams of the original 30-minute anime short Under the Dog Episode 0. The total runtime of this special edition would be 54 minutes. An international Blu-ray Disc and DVD release would follow. The premiere screening is scheduled for between January and April 2018.

The Kickstarter page notes that the staff consider the project to be the "next step" toward creating an Under the Dog television anime series.

Episode 0 was released in August 2016. The production team used Kickstarter in order to avoid the process of funding from production committees and therefore retain creative control of the anime. The project met its minimum US$580,000 goal on Kickstarter in September 2014 and eventually raised US$878,028 in Kickstarter pledges.

Masahiro Ando (Hana-Saku Iroha, Blast of Tempest) directed the anime based on a story by Jirō Ishii (428: Shibuya Scramble, producer on Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors). Yuusuke Kozaki (Fire Emblem: Awakening) designed the characters, Kinema Citrus was in charge of animation, and Orange Co. (Ghost in the Shell Arise) was in charge of 3D CGI.
