Bungo Stray Dogs Spinoff Novel About Yukito Ayatsuji, Natsuhiko Kyogoku Gets Manga

1st chapter launched online on Friday

Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa launched a new Bungo Stray Dogs manga titled Bungo Stray Dogs Gaiden: Ayatsuji Yukito VS. Kyogoku Natsuhiko (Bungo Stray Dogs Side Story: Yukito Ayatsuji vs Natsuhiko Kyōgoku) on Friday on Kadokawa's Young Ace Up manga website.

The manga is based on Asagiri's spinoff novel of the same name. The novel shipped in Japan in January 2016. The story follows Yukito Ayatsuji, a detective based on the author of the horror novel Another, and his rival Natsuhiko Kyōgoku, a "necromancer" based on the author of Mōryō no Hako.

Asagiri and Harukawa began the original manga in Kadokawa's Young Ace in 2012. Yen Press published the fourth volume of the manga in English on September 19.

The first television anime adaptation of Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa's Bungo Stray Dogs manga aired in April-June 2016, and the anime's second 12-episode series aired from October-December. The Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple anime film will open in Japan on March 3.

The "battle action" story centers around a league of literary figures with supernatural powers. For example, in real life, Ryūnosuke Akutagawa wrote acclaimed stories that inspired Akira Kurosawa's Rashōmon film and the Aoi Bungaku Series anime's Jigoku Hen (Hell Screen) arc. In Bungo Stray Dogs, he has the power to transform and manipulate his cloak into a monster-like entity. Together, some of these writers solve mysteries as part of the "Armed Detective Agency," while others appear as antagonists.
