Both series premiere in Japan this week

Crunchyroll and FUNimation Entertainment announced on Tuesday that they will stream Hakyū Hōshin Engi and The Silver Guardian 2 as part of their winter 2018 simulcast season. Crunchyroll will stream the series with English subtitles while Funimation's streams will be English-dubbed. Premiere dates and times have not yet been announced.

Hakyū Hōshin Engi, the new television anime of Ryū Fujisaki's 1996-2000 Hoshin Engi manga, will premiere in Japan on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and BS11 on Friday, and then will air on AT-X on Saturday. The show will stream in Japan exclusively on AbemaTV. The official website is listing the anime with 23 episodes plus a special episode on the eighth and final home video release.

Crunchyroll describes the story:

A once thrived kingdom, In—now governed by an evil hermit, Dakki, and her party—is in a chaotic status with its people suffering Dakki's oppressions. Seeing this, The Hermit Band took it seriously and planned a “Hoshin Plan” which is assigned to an apprentice hermit, Daikobo, who gathered partners, captured and sealed all evil hermits, and planned to establish a new kingdom. On the other hand, the strongest and an In- royal hermit, Bunchu, stood up against Daikobo to protect the old kingdom with all his might. Thus, the death battle among invincible hermits begins...

Masahiro Aizawa is directing at C-Station, and Natsuko Takahashi is in charge of the series scripts written by Yoshiki Ōkusa and Rintarou Ikeda. Yoshimitsu Yamashita is designing the characters, while Maiko Iuchi is composing the music. Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas are performing the opening theme song "Keep the Heat and Fire Yourself Up," and Nagi Yanagi is performing the ending theme song "Madoi Mirai."

The new season of The Silver Guardian will premiere on Saturday on Tokyo MX in Japan. The anime is based on the Chinese web comic Yín Zhī Shǒu Mù Rén.

Haoliners Animation League founder Li Haolin is taking over as chief director and scriptwriter for the second season. Episode director Ken Ando is replacing Masahiko Ohkura as director. Yoshiaki Tsubata (Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~) is again designing the characters and serving as chief animation director, while Minako Seki (both seasons of Kingdom) is returning to compose the music. BLADE is assisting Emon with animation production. Classmate will perform the ending theme song "Kimi Kimi Kimi."

The first season premiered on Tokyo MX1 on April 1. Crunchyroll streamed the 12-episode series with English subtitles as it aired in Japan, and Funimation streamed an English dub.
