Giant Ganko, Moe Ganko debut in new series inspired by children's puppet show

NHK revealed on Friday that a second season of the Gan Gan Ganko-chan television anime, based on its long-running educational puppet program Zawazawa Mori no Ganko-chan (Ganko-chan of Rustling Forest), will premiere on BS Premium at 7:55 a.m. on Sunday. The series' first two episodes will feature two new versions of the character Ganko-chan: Godzilla-inspired Giant Ganko and beautiful Moe Ganko.

Giant Ganko will debut in the "Gan Gan Gaga-n! Tsumu-chan Ōkikunaru!" episode on Sunday. In the episode's story, Ganko and Gen notice that Tsumu has somehow become huge. Tsumu thinks the reason is a growth spurt, and Ganko thinks Tsumu looks cool. However, Tsumu keeps getting larger.

Moe Ganko will debut in the "Gan Gan Gaga-n! Fushigi na Oekaki!" episode on February 11. In the episode's story, pictures begin to move when Ganko and Ganpē draw on the ground with "moving stones." Gen is amazed when he sees this and begins to draw pictures of his own. His beautiful girl version of Ganko comes alive.

Returning cast members include:

Deko Akao (Amanchu!, Noragami, Flying Witch) is returning to write the script, and 10 Gauge will again animate the series. Ken Matsudaira is again performing the theme song and other songs.

The comedy follows a boy named Gen, who time travels from the year 2020 to a distant future where humanity has gone extinct. He begins staying at the Ganko family home in the Rustling Forest, where he has none of the amenities he is used to: no electricity, gas, or running water, as well as no television, smartphones, convenience stores, snacks, or games.

The anime's first season premiered in December 2016.
