Monster Strike Gets New 3DCG Anime Film in October

The official website for XFlag's Monster Strike franchise announced on Thursday that the franchise is getting a new anime film that will open in October titled Monster Strike The Movie: Sora no Kanata (Beyond the Sky). The tagline on the below visual reads "On that day, Tokyo floated."
The anime will tell an original story and will feature original characters. The story takes place 13 years ago, when suddenly one part of Tokyo broke off and began to float in the sky. Tokyo was separated into "Old Tokyo" as the part that was floating in the air, and "New Tokyo," the part that stayed on the ground. Communication and interaction between the two Tokyos was impossible, and years passed. One day, a young girl perceives that Old Tokyo will fall back down to the ground, and she sets out on the perilous path from from Old Tokyo to New Tokyo to save the citizens from the impending crisis.
Hiroshi Nishikiori (A Certain Magical Index both seasons and film, Azumanga Daioh, Trinity Seven) is directing the film at CG studio Orange. XFlag is credited with production, and Warner Brothers is distributing.
The staff will reveal more information about the film at an event on June 30.
Social networking service mixi released the Monster Strike game on iOS and Android devices in Japan in 2013. XFLAG released the English version in North America in 2014, but that version shut down in August 2017. The game also debuted in Taiwan and South Korea in 2014. The game's staff reports over 35 million players worldwide. mixi released a Nintendo 3DS port of the game in Japan in 2015.
The first 52-episode net anime series premiered in October 2015, and Crunchyroll streamed the series with English subtitles. The first part of the show's second season premiered in April 2017, and ran until September. The second part of the second season, titled Monster Strike the Anime: The Fading Cosmos, premiered in October, and ran for 13 episodes. Crunchyroll also streamed both parts of the second season.
The Monster Strike The Movie anime film opened in Japan in December 2016. Crunchyroll began streaming the film in May 2017.
The franchise has also inspired a six-episode spinoff series titled Mon-Soni! D'Artagnan no Idol Sengen (MSonic!), which premiered in June 2017.
