Live-Action Hyōka, Kamen Teacher Air on HBO's RED in August

Hyōka airs on August 17, Kamen Teacher on August 24

Asian movie channel RED announced last week that it will air the live-action film adaptations of Honobu Yonezawa's Hyōka mystery novel and Tohru Fujisawa's Kamen Teacher manga on August 17 and 24, respectively.

Hyōka opened in Japan last November.

Kento Yamazaki (live-action Your Lie in April, Orange) stars in the film as Hōtarō Oreki, and Alice Hirose (live-action Silver Spoon, Maria Watches Over Us) plays Eru Chitanda. Fujiko Kojima and Amane Okayama both play classic literature club members.

The story of Hyou-ka follows a boy named Hōtarō who is not assertive about getting involved, but was ordered by his older sister to join the classic literature club. In the club, he gets close to the truth about an incident, involving a female member's uncle, which happened 33 years ago. The "energy-saving" boy is joined by an inquisitive girl in this adolescent mystery.

Yonezawa's Kotenbu (Classic Literature Club) novel series began with Hyōka, the first novel, in 2001. The Gusha no Endroll novel then followed in 2002, Kudryavka no Junban in 2005, Toomawari Suru Hiyoko in 2007, Futari no Kyori no Gaisan in 2010, and Imasara Tsubasa o Iwaretemo in November 2016. Penerbit Haru released the Hyōka novel last December.

Kyoto Animation adapted some of the stories in the series into a 22-episode television anime series in 2012. The anime's character designs by Futoshi Nishiya served as the basis for the character designs in Task Ohna's manga, which launched in Kadokawa's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine in January 2011. Kadokawa published the manga's 11th compiled book volume last October.

Kamen Teacher opened in February 2014 as a sequel to the manga's earlier live-action television special adaptation that aired in July 2013. Both versions starred Kis-My-Ft2 idol group member Taisuke Fujigaya.

The original four-volume story revolved around Araki Gota and Kamen Teacher, who were hired to a public high school of delinquents to solve the school's problems in their own unorthodox ways. The new story explores the activities of the masked Kamen Teacher at a notable school for wealthy socialites, where powerful parents and money mean everything to students.
