Black Lagoon Manga Gets Animated Ad to Celebrate 11th Volume

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
1th volume shipped on Monday

The official YouTube channel of Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday GX magazine began streaming an anime commercial for the 11th volume of Rei Hiroe's Black Lagoon manga on Monday. Megumi Toyoguchi narrates the video. The 11th volume debuted on the same day. (Note: The official video on YouTube is region-locked to Japan. A region-free video is provided below.)

Hiroe launched the Black Lagoon manga in Monthly Sunday GX in 2002. The 11th volume (seen right) is the first compiled book volume of the manga released in four years, since the 10th volume's release in May 2014. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America, and it released the 10th volume in April 2015.

The manga had resumed in May 2017 following a hiatus that began in early 2014, but then went on hiatus again in August. The manga will resume in spring 2019.

Madhouse adapted the manga into two television anime series in 2006, and the Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail OVA in 2010. Geneon released both series on DVD in North America in 2007-2008, and Funimation re-released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2012, and again in 2015.

Hiroe was also the original creator for the Re:CREATORS television anime series. He also provided the original character designs, and wrote and oversaw the scripts for the series. The 22-episode anime premiered in April 2017. Hiroe will launch the temporarily titled 341 Sentōdan (341 Combat Team) manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine in spring 2019.
