Saint Seiya: Saintia Shō Anime Reveals Promo Video, More Cast

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Hideo Ishikawa, Rika Tachibana, more join cast for series premiering online on December 10

The official website for the anime of Chimaki Kuori's Saint Seiya: Saintia Shō manga began streaming a promotional video for the series on Saturday. The video previews the show's opening theme song "The Beautiful Brave" by four main cast members.

The staff also revealed five more cast members on Saturday:

The show will premiere on the "SkyPer! Anime Set" channel on Amazon Prime Video in Japan on December 10 at 7:00 p.m. JST. The anime will later premiere on Animax on December 24, and on the dAnimax channel on dTV on January 5. The "Animax on PlayStation" app will also premiere the show on December 10, but only the first three episodes will stream on the same schedule as SkyPer! Anime Set.

The anime's main cast includes:

Masato Tamagawa (Nurse Witch Komugi, Aria the Animation, Air Gear episode director) is the series director for the anime at GONZO. Ikuko Takahashi (O-jii-san no Lamp, Asura) is in charge of series composition. Keiichi Ishikawa (Saint Seiya Omega, One Piece: Heart of Gold) and Ayana Nishino (Hitorijime My Hero) are designing the characters. Toshihiko Sahashi (Saint Seiya Omega, Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold) is composing the music. Toei Animation is credited with planning and production.

The cast members will perform the opening and ending songs in character. Aina Suzuki (Shōko), M.A.O (Kyōko), Inori Minase (Saori), and Megumi Nakajima (Mii) are performing the opening song "The Beautiful Brave." Suzuki and M.A.O are performing the ending song "Hohoemi no Resonance" (Smile Resonance). Both songs will ship on CD on December 26 along with a third track, a character song for Evil Goddess Eris (also voiced by M.A.O).

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga, and it describes the story:

In the wake of a space-wide civil war instigated by Saga–the Gemini Gold Saint–a new team of Saints comes together with the goal of protecting their goddess Athena. This first all-woman team of armored warriors, powered by the Zodiac, will use their cunning, strength, and compassion to defend their worlds and oppose their very destinies.

The manga is set immediately after the main storyline's Sanctuary arc after the defeat of Gemini Saga from Masami Kurumada's original Saint Seiya manga, but before the Posieidon arc. However, whereas the original manga followed a boy named Seiya and other Saints who fight to protect the goddess Athena, the new series follows a female "Saintia" named Shō who fights evil deities to protect Athena.
