Film based on smartphone game opens in June

The website for the theatrical film adaptation of The Alchemist Code (Ta ga Tame no Alchemist) smartphone game revealed more cast members and the film's additional staff on Saturday.

Inori Minase is joining the film project as the original character Kasumi Nagasaka.

Ryota Ohsaka will reprise his role from the game as Edgar L. Leonhart. Other cast members include:

Toshizo Nemoto (Macross Delta, Log Horizon, Space Brothers, Steins;Gate) is writing the screenplay, Chikashi Kadekaru (Juni Taisen: Zodiac War, Scar-red Rider XechS) is designing the characters, and Akiyoshi Yasuda (★STARGUiTAR) is composing the music. Satelight is animating the film.

Other newly revealed staff include:

Macross director Shōji Kawamori is serving as chief director on the project. Kawamori was first involved in the game when he directed the game's opening video, which led to his involvement with the film. Kawamori previously stated that the film will be "not just for fans of the game, or anime, or fantasy, but will also expand on the game's world and STAND ALONE as its own story."

Masanori Takahashi (When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace) is directing the film. The film will open in Japan in June.

Fuji & gumi Games released the game in January 2016. The game is a tactical role-playing game centered on seven characters and themed around the seven deadly sins. The game is set on the continent of Babel, where the Tower of Babel looms large over seven nations. After the invention of alchemy led to its use as a tool of war that brought humanity to the brink of extinction, the seven nations struck an uneasy peace that led to a prohibition on alchemy for hundreds of years since. In the Continental Year 911, the nation of Lustrice broke the pact by assembling an army bolstered by alchemy, with ambitions of conquest over the continent. Led by Envylia, the six nations allied and struck down the rogue nation, casting alchemy once again to darkness. But 20 years after the war, alchemy once again begins to cause chaos in the land.

The game has more than 8 million downloads worldwide.
