Love Live! Sunshine!! Film Opens in Southeast Asia in March

Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines fan screening, general release dates revealed

Odex revealed the opening dates for its screening of the Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow anime film in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei last Friday. The screening dates are as follows:

  • Singapore: Fan Screening - March 2, General Release - March 7
  • Malaysia and Brunei: Fan Screening - March 23, General Release - March 28
  • Indonesia: Fan Screening - March 16, General Release - March 27
  • Philippines: Fan Screening - March 16, General Release - March 27

The official website for the Love Live! Sunshine!! franchise previously listed the above territories with different screening dates, but Odex clarified that the dates are tentative and may change depending on the cinema.

The film opened in Japan on January 4, and earned 98,963,900 yen (about US$911,690) in its first three days at the box office. The film ranked at #7 for earnings from January 4-6, but ranked at #8 in terms of tickets sold during the January 5-6 weekend. The film has so far earned a cumulative total of 712,448,400 yen (about US$6.52 million) as of January 27.

[In the film's story, Uranohoshi Girls' High School's idol group Aquors has won the final Love Live! contest.] While preparing to enroll at a new school, the first- and second-year students encounter unexpected trouble. Also, after heading for a graduation trip, the third-year students go missing. As they are separated, the Aquors members appreciate the weight of their togetherness for the first time. In order to move forward, they must decide how to react to their new situations.
