Hiroshi Hirata Launches Zanki Period Drama Omnibus Manga Series

New series by gekiga samurai story creator will consist of 1-shot stories

The September issue of Shonengahosha's Young King BULL magazine revealed on Monday that Hiroshi Hirata will launch a "epic period-drama manga of one-shots" titled Zanki in the magazine's next issue on September 13. The series will be an omnibus of one-shot stories.

Hirata is known for his "gekiga" stories about samurai, including Satsuma Gishiden (pictured right), an adaptation of Zatoichi, and more. He is the logo designer for Katsuhiro Ōtomo's Akira manga, the Otogi Zoshi anime, and the Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai film.
