Funimation to Screen One Piece Stampede Film in U.S., Canada This Fall

Funimation announced on Tuesday that it will screen the One Piece Stampede anime film in theaters in the United States and Canada this fall. Funimation Films will screen the film both in English and in Japanese with English subtitles. The company will announce the theatrical dates at a later time.
One Piece Stampede marks the 20th anniversary of the anime inspired by Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga. The film opened in Japan on August 9. The first 3 million theatergoers have received a bonus One Piece Comic -Kan-Banpaku- manga. Fuji TV describes the film's story:
The world's greatest exposition of the pirates, by the pirates, for the pirates - the Pirates Festival. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Crew receive an invitation from its host Buena Festa who is known as the Master of Festivities. They arrive to find a venue packed with glamorous pavilions and many pirates including the ones from the Worst Generation. The place is electric.
The film ranked at #1 in its opening weekend. It sold 356,052 tickets on 429 screens in 352 theaters on its opening day that Friday, the largest first-day attendance record at the Japanese box office so far in 2019. It then sold 598,000 tickets for 806 million yen (about US$7.59 million) from Saturday to Sunday, or 69.7% of the first (non-holiday) weekend total of One Piece Film Gold, the previous franchise film. The new film eventually sold 1,254,372 tickets for 1,646,321,500 yen (about US$15.64 million) from Friday to Monday of that weekend. (That Monday was a holiday in Japan.) The film earned 8.4% more and sold 15.3% more tickets over its first four days than One Piece Film Gold. The film has earned over 5 billion yen (about US$46.7 million) and has sold more than 3.7 million tickets as of Sunday.
