Yakuza: Like a Dragon PS4 Game Reveals Gameplay Trailer, Play Spots, Additional Cast

posted on by Alex Mateo
7th game in Yakuza series debuts in Japan on January 16

The official YouTube channel for the Yakuza video game franchise began streaming a trailer on Thursday for Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Ryū ga Gotoku 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue), the seventh game in Sega's Yakuza series. The video previews gameplay, including RPG battles, jobs, earning money, allies, and play spots.

The game's official website also revealed information on several play spots and additional characters. The Dragon Kart play spot turns Yokohama into a kart race course. In the Theater play spot, the main character watches a movie while "sleepiness," in the form of sheep heads, attacks him and tries to put him to sleep. The PachiSlot play spot reproduces real-world PachiSlot machines including one based on Fist of the Blue Sky.

The newly announced cast includes:

Sumire Uesaka as Saeko Mukо̄da, owner of the long standing soapland (brothel) Otohime Land and employee at the cabaret club run by Nonomiya

Akio Ohtsuka as Kо̄ichi Adachi, who worked as a criminal investigator for the police before being demoted for defying Jūrō Horinо̄chi, the current Superintendent General of the Metropolitan Police, regarding the true culprit of a case

Sega will release the game for PlayStation 4 in Japan as Ryū ga Gotoku 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue (Yakuza 7: The Direction of Light and Dark) on January 16 and in the West as Yakuza: Like a Dragon ("Like a Dragon" is the translation of the series' Japanese title Ryū ga Gotoku) in 2020.

The game takes place in Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama. The story follows the new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, who belongs to the Arakawa Family, the third generation family of the Tojo Clan. Kasuga's boss Masumi Arakawa asked him to take the fall for the crimes of the family's right-hand man Jō Sawashiro. For his family's love and his boss' respect, Kasuga served 18 years in a strict prison and was released in 2019. However, no one was there to greet him upon his release.

The game will have a "live command RPG battle" system that combines action and RPG battle commands. Toshihiro Nagoshi is the general director.

The previously announced cast includes:

Kazuhiro Nakaya as Ichiban Kasuga, the protagonist who takes the fall for the crimes of Jō Sawashiro

Shinichi Tsutsumi as Jō Sawashiro, the right-hand man of the Arakawa Family

Ken Yasuda as Namba, a man who lost his nursing license for smuggling medicine out of a hospital to the black market

Kiichi Nakai as Masumi Arakawa, leader of the Arakawa Family, the third generation family of the Tojo Clan

In addition, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Yūichi Nakamura, and Kōsuke Toriumi will voice roles in the game.

Sega had previously revealed the game in March with Kazuhiro Nakaya as the protagonist. He was also the protagonist of the Yakuza Online (Ryū ga Gotoku Online) game, which launched for iOS and Android devices and on PC in November 2018.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, the previous game in the series, launched on the PS4 in Japan in December 2016 and launched in North America in April 2018. Sega released the PS4 version of its Yakuza 5 game in Japan on June 20.
