Nausicaa Screening Plus Climate Change Talk at London's Barbican

On Saturday November 23, the Barbican Centre in London will hold an English-dubbed screening of Hayao Miyazaki's 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind at 3.45 p.m. The screening (which will be in Barbican Cinema 2) will be preceded by an introduction by Dr Juan Estrella-Martínez of the Royal Meteorological Society.

From the Barbican listing: "Set a thousand years after an apocalyptic war, a poisonous jungle now covers much of the land. Princess Nausicaä, a brave young adventurer, searches for ways to live in harmony with the toxic environment and must battle the greed of others as they seek to dominate the natural world.

"This handsome Miyazaki creation is an intricately animated journey that raises important questions about how our actions and technology can have lasting effects on our planet and what we can do to redress the natural balance.

"We're delighted to welcome Dr Juan Estrella-Martínez to introduce the film and give some insight into the fascinating field of Climate Science and what global changes in weather can mean for humankind's place in the world."

The screening is part of the Barbican's Family Film Weekender 2019, a series of events around family films on November 23 and 24.
