The Japanese Film Festival announced its screening schedule for its Delhi event on Friday. The festival will take place at PVR Select Citywalk, Delhi from March 4-6 and will screen the following films:

Studio 4°C's anime film of Akihiro Nishino's Poupelle of Chimney Town (Entotsu-chō no Poupelle) picture book will screen on March 5 at 1:30 p.m. IST.

Eleven Arts licensed the film for North America and describes the film:

Poupelle of Chimney Town is the story of young Lubicchi living among the thick smoke from the chimneys of his isolated town, yearning to see the “stars” —to know the truth —his father always told him about. One Halloween night he meets Poupelle, a man made of garbage, and together they look to the sky as their adventure begins. Spectacularly beautiful, filled with inspiring performances and splendid music and sound effects, and produced at Tokyo's famed Studio 4ºC, Poupelle of Chimney Town brings laughter, tears and joy.

The film opened in Japan in December 2020 and ranked at #4 and earned 322,998,700 (about US$3.13 million) in its opening weekend.

Yusuke Hirota (CGI director for Berserk films, Harmony) directed the film, with Nishino serving as production supervisor, original creator, and writer. Atsuko Fukushima (Genius Party, Robot Carnival) designed the characters.

Studio BONES' anime film of Seiko Tanabe's short story Josee, The Tiger and the Fish (Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi) will screen on March 6 at 11:00 a.m. IST.

The film's story centers on the relationship between Tsuneo and Josee. Tsuneo is a university student, and Josee is a young girl who has rarely gone out of the house by herself due to her being unable to walk. The two meet when Tsuneo finds Josee's grandmother taking her out for a morning walk.

Kotaro Tamura (Noragami, Noragami Aragoto) directed the anime. Nao Emoto (O Maidens in Your Savage Season) drafted the original character designs, and Haruko Iizuka (Tamayura, Children of the Whales, Endro~!) designed those characters for animation, as well as served as chief animation director. Sayaka Kuwamura (Strobe Edge) wrote the script. loundraw (Tsuki ga Kirei, I want to eat your pancreas character design) is credited for concept design. Evan Call (Violet Evergarden, Schwarzes Marken) composed the music. Eve performed the film's theme song "Ao no Waltz" (Blue Waltz), and also performed the insert song "Shinkai."

The anime film opened in Japan in December 2020, delayed from its scheduled summer opening due to the spread of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Tanabe published the original story in the 1985 short story collection of the same name. The story inspired a live-action film in 2003.

The 4K remaster of the Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama (Ramayana - Rama Ouji Densetsu) anime film will screen on March 6 at 4:00 p.m. IST.

The film's website describes the story:

In Ayodhya, the royal palace of Kosala kingdom in ancient India, four princes were born to three queens, each of whom grew to great stature. After being banished from the palace for fourteen years due to court intrigue, Prince Rama retreated to the forest with his beautiful wife Sita. Then, Rama, who had vanquished the demons of the forest, invites the wrath of the demon king Ravana, and his wife Sita is kidnapped. Rama goes to rescue Sita with the help of the monkey army. But while fighting the powerful Ravana army, his brother Lakshmana is seriously wounded. At this time, Hanuman, the general of the monkey army, flew to the Himalayas and carried a mountain of medicinal herbs that healed his wounds, saving his life. Eventually, Rama's army defeated Ravana's army using the "Heavenly Weapons" and returned to Ayodhya in triumph.

The remastered version of the film launched in the 70th anniversary year of India-Japan diplomatic relations.
