Manga Entertainment Announces Licensing Deal With Starz
Tuesday January 20, 2:00 pm ET
Includes 13 Anime Films

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- NATPE 2004 -- Leading Japanese animation distributor, Manga Entertainment, Inc. has entered into an agreement with Starz for thirteen of Manga's Anime films. The films will be featured on Starz's non-stop X-citement Action Channel.

Incorporated in the agreement are a number of Manga's most highly-acclaimed titles including two seminal works by veteran animation director Mamoru Oshii - Ghost in the Shell and the Patlabor movies. Ghost in the Shell is the ground-breaking cybernetic magnum opus based upon the works of Japanese comic book legend Masamune Shirow. Other Shirow comic-book-turned movies are the two films in the mecha-infused Patlabor franchise, including Patlabor 1 and Patlabor 2: The Movie, which has spawned three feature films and a long-running Japanese television series.

Among many other titles included in the deal is from one of Japan's most famous animation studio's, Production I.G, (anime scene in Kill Bill) first ever fully digitally animated film, Blood: The Last Vampire. Director Satoshi Kon's masterful psychological thriller Perfect Blue and two long-running fan-favorite and video game inspired series - the original Japanese TV series that has never been seen before on TV, Street Fighter II V, and the ever-explosive post-apocalyptic saga of Fist of the North Star. Other acquisitions in the deal include, Black Magic M-66, Macross II: Lovers Again, Macross Plus, New Dominion Tank Police, Shadow Skill, and X.

The deal was negotiated and completed by Nancy Silverstone, vice president, program acquisitions, Starz and Los Angeles-based sales agency, All Channel Films' Seth Kittay and Manga CEO/President, Marvin Gleicher.

"We are excited to continue our relationship with the Starz and their support for this extraordinary genre that is influencing western culture at a rapid pace," states Gleicher.

"We are pleased to add this cutting-edge selection of films to our Anime library," said Silverstone. "Since 1999 the Action Channel has been the unprecedented home of Anime. This agreement with Manga further underscores our commitment to this genre and to our Anime-loving addicts who know they have a dedicated channel to satisfy their hard-edge movie-viewing preferences."

Starz's Action Channel features the best in action movies 24/7, including a packed schedule of martial arts, action-hero, war, crime stories and Anime films.
