SelectaVisión Acquires Rights to Release Blue Giant in Spain

Based on the manga winner at Japan Media Arts Festival, with Original Soundtrack by the famous jazz musician Hiromi Uehara

Spanish distributor SelectaVisión announces that it has acquired all distribution rights in Spain for the musical Anime film Blue Giant. The film will be previewed next July during the Jazzinema 2023 festival held in the Basque Country and Navarra, prior to its release in theaters nationwide on a date yet to be confirmed.

Blue Giant is directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, director of anime hits such as Mob Psycho 100, Death Parade, or the film Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine. This new film distributed by TOHO animation is based on the manga of the same name, winner of the Japan Media Arts Festival Award and the Shogakukan Manga Award, as well as being nominated for the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award and as "Comic of the Year" at the Angoulême International Comic Festival.

NUMBER 8, the publisher of the original manga, has joined the production of this film to write the screenplay, which tells the story of Dai Miyamoto, a former high school basketball player who discovers his love of jazz and takes up learning to play the saxophone. He leaves his hometown for Tokyo, determined to become the best saxophonist in the world, but soon discovers that the life of a professional musician is harder than he thought.

This work with music as a central pillar features famous pianist Hiromi Uehara, known worldwide for her talent playing jazz, who has composed the film's original soundtrack and also performs the pieces for Yukinori Sawabe's character. Also joining the production are Shun Ishikawa, drummer of the worldwide hit band Millennium Parade, and saxophonist Tomoaki Baba to perform the musical pieces for Shunji Tamada and Dai Miyamoto.

Blue Giant was released in Japan on February 17 and grossed over ¥1 billion (€7.5 million dollar) at the box office. It was recently screened at the prestigious Annecy 2023 International Animated Film Festival and has begun its international distribution, which includes its upcoming release in Spain.
