ABOUT PLUTO

Praised by many as a masterpiece, the manga PLUTO is based on Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy ‘The Greatest Robot on Earth’ arc from 1964 and created by Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Yawara!, Master Keaton) and his long-time co-creator Takashi Nagasaki.

The suspense drama takes place in a neo-futuristic world where humans and high-functioning robots live in complete harmony. The globally acclaimed manga has won numerous awards, including the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. The 2015 stage adaptation of PLUTO returned in 2018 by popular demand and toured Japan and Europe.

Now 60 years after the original TV broadcast of the Astro Boy anime, PLUTO now finally receives its own anime adaptation, helmed by Masao Maruyama, a member of the original Astro Boy production staff and founder of acclaimed studio MAPPA.

PLUTO SYNOPSIS

In a world where humans and robots coexist, Europol detective Gesicht is on the case when a string of powerful robots are destroyed, leading him to believe that the culprit is targeting the most advanced robots in the world – including himself. But things take a shocking turn when key humans involved in robot law start getting killed off one by one, and there's no clear sign of a perpetrator at the murder scenes. As Gesicht investigates, he meets the highly advanced robot Atom, whose emotions and AI leave him questioning his own identity. Together, they uncover a dark plot that could spell the end of the world as they know it. But with the clock ticking, can they stop the greatest evil in history before it's too late?
