26g of acceleration, even for only a short period of time, would almost certainly kill everyone.

From the same article, speaking about horizontal axis forces:

"Early experiments showed that untrained humans were able to tolerate 17 g eyeballs-in (compared to 12 g eyeballs-out) for several minutes without loss of consciousness or apparent long-term harm."

Since astronauts lie on the backs and aren't subject to much in the way of vertical forces, they can withstand higher acceleration forces than one might think. Not all G-forces are the same, and 26g "eyeballs-in" for thirty seconds is not guaranteed to kill them (although there's a good chance). But they are going to be seriously injured at the very least. Given the crazy-high health standards astronauts have to meet, it seems insane to then go and subject their bodies to such a hugely traumatic and damaging experience just to shave a measly eight minutes off the mission schedule.

Yeah pretty unlikely. But maybe he was talking about something else in the anime. It seems like a serious over-sight.

But then..they did spell it feul...

A typo is one thing and is easily forgiven. It doesn't matter except to make us laugh. But a realistic space show with support from JAXA getting the amount of time it takes to get into space wrong . . . that's pretty sloppy.

The only way I could possibly see the "thirty seconds" being true if it solely meant the 100km barrier which is the official (internationally recognised) start of space. But even then it seems a tad too short a time.

And let's not forget that the SRBs and first stage were not jettisoned until near-orbit, another glaring error. The whole point of having SRBs and a first stage in the first place is that you can eject them once they're used up to then lighten your spacecraft's weight.

At this point, they're looking more like Rocket Girls than Planetes. Or hell, Armageddon.

Could always use more Aerosmith.

Is that a reference to the creators' penchant for using names based on musicians? Hibito's crew includes

"Buddy Waters" => Muddy Waters, famous blues musician
"Freddie Saturn" => Freddie Mercury, lead vocalist for Queen
"Damien Kweller" => a merger of musicians Damien Rice and Ben Kweller

Then there's good old "Deneil Young". I hear he used to work alongside "Crosby Stills" when they trained pilots.

On a less related note, on December 16th the Judoka, who became 5th in her weight class in the London Olympics, is going to debut as a voice-actress for Space Brothers. Apparently she's a big fan of the series seeing as she said so herself during the Olympics on her twitter account. It is not said which character she's going to play but I guess we'll just have to wait until the mentioned date Very Happy

Well, the airforce still lets Chuck Yeager fly jets at the age of eighty-nine, so who knows?

My household aviation expert says it's plausible.

Celebrating Hibito's successful launch.
Everyone sure was in a good mood.
So the final results will be announced soon.
Seeing Hibito's little broadcast from the module was nice.
Mutta hanging out with Azuma and his family was kinda unusual.
At least it helped us to understand Azuma's way of thinking better.

Watching eppie 33 made me wish there was a definite plan to do a Mars landing. I'm 47 now, so the likelihood of such an event in my lifetime, even if I live to the Canadian male average (which I think is about 84 years these days), is pretty slim. Some of you youngins might get to see it, though.

Anyway, from the Earth to the moon in a mere 33 episodes - yay!
