Ah, so disappointed right now. Hopefully the rerun is to prepare us for the new season. (Anime reruns in Japan are extremely rare right? At the very least, this shows they still have faith in Haruhi.)

I'm not the least but surprised or saddened. I have faith that the companies know what they are doing. I know all of us were looking forward to a new season too. This way they will have even more time to work on it. I doubt they would ever cancel it.

.....
Kadokawa should know better than to rile up fans for a second season of Haruhi. It will just lead the fans to disown Haruhi...
I love Haruhi and all but I think Kadokawa is pushing the limit here with a rebroadcasting. I know it's rare to re-run things But most of their hardcore fanbase in japan probably already have the DVD's. So makes you ask the question, what's the real point?
I think some of you are right with your suspicion's that this is just a ploy an we'll be seeing the second season after the re-airing of the first season. But I'm doubtful of it...
But we won't know anything else till we read the article in Newtype but then again they did an article on so called Season 2 about 2 years back and where did that go? It didn't go anywhere.
I could only imagine Konata right now finding out about this being a re-airing of Haruhi and not a second season.

April is still going to be EPIC!
Eureka 7 movie!
Haruhi! (albeit a rerun)
I think this is all great.
The yo-yo effect of getting excited about something new and then getting bummed about a repeat. I now expect this from anime companies as part of the process of a popular franchise.
I don't think it would feel correct if they did not do it. Marketing is such a wonderful past time!

Quote: | These things take lots of time for careful planning and creation. (Gurren Lagann took seven years, and I don't know how long they were working on the first Haruhi series before it ever saw the light of day, but somehow I doubt it was done overnight.) |
From what some say, projects generally take between 1-2 years to plan and produce (and perhaps less for a sequel). With Gurren Lagann - an original pet project - a Gainax producer probably drew up the concept several years before the studio did anything with it.
As for Haruhi, there're plenty of reasons why they might take their time, from Kadokawa's overarching business plan to changes in creative staff. Previous announcements already indicated that the top-ranking members of the original staff would not have a major role this time (one left the company in disgrace, another became busy with all things Clannad).

This mislead was SO intentional. I can't believe it, who DOES something like this? |
The same people who scramble episodes of a series and get everyone to believe this is the most brilliant thing since the orgasm.

Well, this is a kick in the pants if I ever felt one. Which I have. Multiple times. While I'm disappointed, FMA2 is (hopefully) a potent enough drug to numb this news. Guess I'll just have to wait till April to find out for sure though.

Don't forget to make the main female be an unsufferable jackass so that when she starts acting even close to how a sane human being would act you call it character development.
