So the second best (after Go Nagai) in the anime industry himself has a hard time with Macross, unable to give it a proper send off since it keeps reeling him back in. This kind of reminds me of one of Game Theory's episodes on Super Smash Brothers and its creator, it's clear they want to do other projects yet when they do so there isn't as much reception. I'm surprised the interview didn't bring up on how that Fool multimedia project was going, it seemed clear Kawamori was very passionate about that idea which only got one fantastic series and a theatrical play.

Thanks for asking Kawamori so many questions about Arjuna, Zac. I hope he can one day convince Bandai Visual to give the show a Blu-ray release.

I was amused by the Arjuna questions. I imagined Zac trying extremely hard not to share how much he disliked it(for totally valid reasons).

Cool interview though. I absolutely ADORE that concept he shared for the new anime. It's very much the kind of thing I feel a lot of people are thinking about these days. In my work, I get to have conversations with a lot of different people, and talking about where technology is going, and what that means for humanity, is a huge topic that actually comes up pretty regularly due to how my job is directly tied to that kind of thing.

"Macross Delta just wrapped up." ? Did you think Delta was only one cour at the time of this interview? Though... I kinda wish it was. It really went downhill after the first half lol.

Interesting to see what he said about Arjuna. Really underrated show IMO, despite it's flaws.

I think he meant Macross Delta just wrapped up production. Otherwise, I don't think Kawamori would have found the time to attend Anime Expo.

Is it me or does the first picture in this collage remind of a city from the movie Tron?

Shoji Kawamori is everything people say is true of Yoshiyuki Tomino but isn't: left to his own devices, he can't make anime for crap. Look at all his "best works". Noboru Ishiguro made SDF Macross work. Shinichiro Watanabe made Macross Plus work. Kazuki Akane is largely responsible for Escaflowne working. What's he done? Arjuna? True, all productions are a collaborate effort, but whenever Kawamori is given the most control, you get abominations like Macross Zero.

Maybe they're all crap to you, penguintruth, but to so many others, including myself have quite enjoyed Kawamori's offerings. To each his own, I say.

It is possible that he does the series in exchange for funding for his own productions, if his shows don't do very well as someone in the comments said, then this may be the only way he can persuade them to give to money to a product they have little faith in. Though that is just speculation, and as the last chap said people do like his work even if it is not a huge amount of people.

It's funny because you're also acting as if Delta just wrapped up. We're not even halfway through the second half, there are still 9 episodes left.

Yep, this was my mistake - I apologize for the error and have updated the article accordingly.

Aquarion supposedly got its sequels because it made an insane amount of pachinko and pachislot money for a licensed property and that's not counting the licensing for the Super Robot Wars Z trilogy and ACE Rebirth. If a fourth series is made any time soon that'll be proof enough. Laughing

I will ignore the fact that's my favorite Macross entry for a minute and attempt to be objective (never thought I'd say that); Zero supposedly had massive rewrites because pre-production occurred during 9/11 so the setting had to be changed from an urban area (I remember reading New York, but I don't know how true that is) to the island setting we got. I also don't know what else someone would expect in a Macross prequel since it is a real robot series at heart: it had the developing technologies and real world military weaponry, it fleshed out an enemy faction barely even mentioned in the first series, it was isolated enough so that most people can watch it without spoiling other entries, it was short enough to not overstay its welcome, it adds to the mythos, and if someone wanted an entry without idol music (*cough*me*cough*) they'd get their wish. I won't lie, Zero has issues, but at the same time it could have been executed much worse, been planned worse, included much worse, and I've seen such things.

If there was someone to ask on the Japanese side about the Harmony Gold rights issues, I think a series creator would be a person to ask. If I was him and I had the power, I would have HG lose the licenses and give to licensors that truly care about distributing to as wide of an audience as possible.

I don't know if you'll read this, who will do the interviews. but I'll say the same; There are many people who like best Macross Delta, and I'm one of them. we would like to see a second season. much to say in this series.
There are still many mysteries in Macross Delta.
Bouge x Reina, Arad x Kaname and Hayate x Freyja.
Chaos, Walkure and Windermere are become allies now?!
A new enemy, they'll be the Aeris
You can also continue. As they did with other Anime. it's not right.
Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely
