What a coincidence, I just started and finished this series this week or rather, I watched Episode 1 back in October and watched the other 11 this week. Not that I had any problems with that scene... the series got around the Clark Kent question by aging Matoi's transformed state so it was an odd situation for all involved... I felt it was the kind of show best devoured in one gulp and it was.

Two things that have to be brought up first; You can call it a Magical Girl Show all you want but it's a superhero show. Less emphasis on magical friendship and animal mascot mentoring, more emphasis on secret identities, inconvenient costume changes and with Great Power Comes Great Responsibility-ing. Also, it's kind of weird how each girl got their power in a different Superhero way; One was born with it like she was a mutant, another made a techopact with a God and the third got the Magical Girl equivalent of being bit by a radioactive spider. The second is how genuinely funny this show is, especially blue haired and mega mouthed Yuma and her quest of being relevant, I mean becoming an Exorcist Girl. Her accent is so ridiculous that if this show got dubbed, I imagine she'd have a Cajun accent.

Honestly, if this show just ended with the... scratch that; I was going to say that if the show ended with the Yuma-Chin the Sacred Slayer title, I'd give the show even more credit but somehow I missed the episode 13 clip show where the whole series gets retold from Yuma's POV.

didn't really like how they treated the Nights. I mean, we know nothing about them but they still decided to have spoiler[2 of them attack and make a boss(?) appear].

Also did i miss something or did they never explain spoiler[that "boss" character at all. is he supposed to be the one who took over pochi?] why did he do it and who is he?
why did they even write that character in? Thats the thing that bothers me the most.

They should have either focused on the Nights more or simply dont bother with them and just focus on Shingo's and Matoi's (and maybe Shiori's) relationship.

also the ending seems kind of...how do i put it... spoiler[everything went too well? Matoi got Shiori back too easily. i also expected something more interesting from the highest dimension.]

The art is considered bad? i actually liked it.

For me it was the kind of anime which i was resistant to watch the next episode, but when i did, it was fine.
Not the best of this season, but i enjoyed it.

[Edit]: added spoiler tags. Errinundra.
edit: oh sorry, thought that i didn't have to since the article is a review of the whole series. thanks for letting me know that i should add them.

This was a watchable show but nothing too special. I thought the character designs were fine, the reviewer might not have liked them but that doesn't really make them bad. Agree the soundtrack was above average at times.

Also, seeing "in the long run" three times in the span of a few dozen words looks bad. Was that supposed to be a joke or just a lack of vocabulary?

Glad to hear this turned out to not be that bad I actually subscribed to Anime Network just to watch this but due to problems with Paypal billing (Getting double billed payment not going through) and the website's player being overall "buggy" and crashing constantly. I became so frustrated with the experience that I canceled my subscription and only watched the first two episodes.

This is actually a first for me in that I dropped a series because the website it's running on had so many technical issues. If it comes out on DVD I may buy it But I wasn't that impressed with the first two episodes.

Nah, just wonky word repetition. It's been fixed.

Hulu also has it if you want to stream it. Glad I decided not to get that AN subscription

Matoi the Sacred Slayer was one of my top 5. I liked the characters and the animation.

If fan service doesn't bother you, then ignore the reviewer's fan service warning. It is only objectionable to some people, not all.

Very solid in my book.
The comedy, mostly (but not totally) driven by Yuma in a 4th wall breaking performance, was enjoyable.
The one OP that featured her after she gained powers was a hoot.
Pretty good, you can do a whole lot worse blind watching shows, give it a shot.

I had a lot of fun watching this series, and of course Yuma provided most of it. I agree with the review, the daughter father relationship was incredibly sweet. It's kind of a theme this season, strong character relationships.

Some watchers had a very sensible eyebrow... I am stil wondering how this "questionable" scene could have led to such written reactions on the Internet.

About the "single" father/daughter relationship, it is just a coincidence but the chinese animation series To be Hero choosed to heavily have it (in another genre). Funny how two largely different (and ignored) titles in the same season shared a theme.

This show turned out better than it had any right to. I enjoyed watching it week to week.
