This right here is the most overlooked title of Fall 2014, which is still the best season this decade. Makes sense why not many people has heard of this since nobody except Amazon licensed it so I am pleased to see that it's finally getting more attention. While I hate the CGI, the plot and characters makes it worth it for me. I really like the dub from what I've heard too. Very Happy

Judging by the trailer, this is the first time in my life I can say the dub has a shot at being genuinely better than the Japanese version.

Being a Ronia fan already, I was quite disappointed by the younger Miyazaki's weirdly stilted, joyless version of the tale—he was trying to prove that 3DCG had advanced to the point that it could produce works with the enthusiasm and innocence of his father's Heidi, Girl of the Alps, but he only managed to generate an unfortunate study in artistic contrasts. Ronja is so sincere in its intent, yet so catastrophically clumsy in its execution; the series has nothing either on the 1984 film or on the World Masterpiece Theater titles it imitates, and it more often succeeds in being annoying than it does charming.

That said, simply because it's inferior doesn't mean that Ronja is bad, and I'd be mighty pleased if Western children were able to enjoy it courtesy of a really outstanding dub. Indeed, invested, not-quite-so-shouty VAs could make the series significantly better in general, so I may just have to give this another watch in English...

Huh, that narrator didn't sound at all like Gillian Anderson... Wink

Playing Ronja certainly gives an actor's stomach muscles a workout. Kid never stops laughing. Very Happy

I'm glad it's got a good dub, but I wish it was anybody but amazon handling it. Who knows if or when it'll ever get a physical release. The sooner they get out of the anime business, the better. I hate you amazon.com

The English trailer of Ronja sounds great! Although I'm a bit off-put by the not-so-great computer graphics, I might still give this film a watch.
