WHY? Is a big question I have for this. And can they at least wait for Japan to make a live action Naruto.

And the big answer: Because Lionsgate is becoming increasingly desperate to find a house-brand name-franchise to fill the void left by Hunger Games, and the Power Rangers didn't quite do it. Although "Because Naruto is one of the only other Anime Titles The Young People Watch that Lionsgate has heard of, since Netflix already did the Death Note movie" is also acceptable as an answer. Whenever the producers of a US live-action anime adaptation announce that they're making a movie "Based on the hit manga", you've got your big red flag right there. Gee, I bet they even went right to Barnes & Noble and bought a copy. |

If the entire cast is Asian, this is doable. It's just shonen manga Harry Potter.

It's not a question about whether or not the cast is Asian (except maybe the Uchiha and Hyuga). It's about avoiding the uncanny valley that anime movies usually fall into and make a quality movie with a good story and characters. I'll wait until The Greatest Showman comes out before I go full boycott. |

(Owie...I don't quite see the connection here, but judging from the trailers, feel free to go ahead and boycott "Moulin Rouge II" anyway, regardless of the Naruto issue. You won't be missing a thing.) |

They sure are pulling straws, especially when even Disney gave up on Naruto. The popularity train departed years ago. And those involved with the film, well lets just say predicting success would surely put a fortune teller to the test. Personally speaking, I'm expecting it ending up like the Airbender Live Action movie. |

Honestly I'm surprised that no one has tried to make a live action Black Lagoon movie in the states. It's easily one of the easiest series to adapt in here in the west what with it's diverse cast of main characters, somewhat dark narrative, and balls to the wall action scenes. The only real problem I see with it would be turning it into a franchise since it has no real overarching plot. |

Sorry Lionsgate, but Naruto hasn't been popular since 2011. Dragon Ball Z and One Piece have since stolen its thunder. I swear, there's nothing but desperation for a hit since The Hunger Games ended two years ago.

Yeah One Piece is so popular it hasn't had three seperate runs on American TV that ultimately ended with it being pulled off three times. Also I don't know what time period you think this is but DragonBall Z is nowhere near as hot as it was in the early part of the last decade. Unless you were going for Super and even that's shaky.
This is interesting though especially when people put Hollywood studios on the spot for not taking risks, but yet when they adapt something people like (or hate) it's seen as being desperate. |

There are a lot of really great American genre novels in the young adult market that have yet to be adapted. There are even comics, not just superhero comics, but indie comics, webcomics, graphic novels...I really don't get why they would choose a Japanese manga over domestic IP.
