31 years to finish.... That has to be a record. (Berserk may beat that in several years though. JoJo as well since it's already 30 and still on-going.)

The author has another work (Sohryuden) which also just turned 30 and only has 13 volumes out too, the last one was 12 years ago. Guin Saga also started in 1979 and is still ongoing (despite the author having passed away already).
If you count manga there's many things with 40 years of publication.

Personally, if I was a LN author, I would work on 1 series at a time. That's because I wouldn't want to keep my fans waiting for the next volume, outside of personal issues.

But Arslan is not a LN.
