Are they trying to fit this into the story? Because it doesn't really make sense. I assume this takes place during the timeskip segment of the main game? You play as members of the Kingsglaive, but all of them lost their powers and basically became normal dudes when King Regis died. I suppose Noctis could have lent out magic to create his own Kingsglaive, but he'd need the crystal in order to do that (yes, the same crystal that you spend basically the entire main game trying to retrieve).
