This is not my bag, but I would suggest if someone has boxes of several hundred CDs to put them in a box(s), tape the box shut(s) and just leave them on the back loading dock or front door of your nearest Book-Off/Hand-Off when no one is looking.

... or deal with the issue at its root by changing the way these votes and lotteries are set up - tied to litter / waste producing practices. Garbage disposal is well organised in Japan. This man should have done so properly. Saddling Book-off with the excess is not much better than dumbing such unwanted products elsewhere. Book-off's counter staff would politely tell him if he brought these items into their store through their front door.
Perhaps Rino Sashihara really didn't know about the way the "AKB" lotteries and votes are staged nor what their fans resort to as a result and perhaps she'll use Matsumoto's prompting and her own influence on the franchise to affect how the idol unit's management manages such things, now that she became aware ... |

I'm just curious what this guy does for a living because buying 1600 CDs(even if he had help from a couple of friends) is kind of expensive...

And if it was a case of wanting to financially support the artist, I would think that there are other things that they get a larger percentage of than CDs. |

The responsibility for such actions resides solely on that fan. Just because some fans decide to spend upwards of 20-30 thousand dollars or yen on multiple CD's doesn't make it the Company's or Idol's fault. Why should everyone have to suffer or be denied nice things, because of a few people and a society that believes personal responsibility is a thing of the past. |

I believe he would have had to break the CD packaging down into it's particular recyclable components. 1,600 CD cases would have to be broken down. That is quite a lot of work. Believe me, your Japanese neighbors would have made sure you did it.

Personal responsibility is still a thing, but it is not and never has been the absolute last word on responsibility that you think it is. While this fan is not absolved of blame for this, the company and industry that influence and manipulate fans such as him into obsessive behaviours and spending to support these idols do have a lot to answer for. |

Would putting a cap on how many CDs (and other idol-related items) one could buy per person reduce the chance of them being illegally dumped? Or would it just result in prolonging this problem and/or slow profit gain?

I think that would led to the fans trying work arounds in the end though not a bad ideal by any means

Why would any company in the world, put a cap on how much they will sell the public. It simply makes no business sense. Shareholders and other who have a stake in that company would break out the torches and pitchforks. Illegal dumping is a crime all over the world. The solution to the problem is to arrest those that conduct such crimes and punish them. It is not the Idol's responsibility or the company's to be babysitters or parents to irresponsible and lazy individuals. |
